Deric Lostutter, the Anonymous member who exposed the infamous Steubenville High School rape case may get more prison time than the rapist(s). The man who formed a team with the co-conspirator, McHugh, a.k.a. JustBatCat and called themselves KYAnonymous, allegedly hacked a website to expose a high school girl’s rapists has been charged with violating federal computer laws, and if convicted, faces prison sentence eight times longer that would be applicable to the rapist under the US law. The highly controversial Steubenville High School rape case hit headlines when KYAnonymous members exposed that members of the local high school football team publicly who repeatedly sexually assaulted an underage girl. The KYAnonymous team also posted some of the images and videos online from the crime scene.
The two, hacking under the name of KnightSec, hit on the hushed up rape case when they hacked into the website of Steubenville High School, searching for the identities of the high schoolers. They found highly controversial videos recorded by the students on the night of the event, stored on the high school website servers The two chose to expose the rape hush-up and leaked videos online. They accused the local government, law enforcement, and the high school’s administration for orchestrating a cover-up to protect the members of the football team. Both KnightSec and KYAnonymous found worldwide fame for exposing the coverup and featured on Rolling Stones and CNN. FBI eventually tracked both KnightSec members and pressed charges under dreaded IT laws. Lostutter faces up to 16 years in prison for his crimes, five years for three hacking counts, and another year for lying to the FBI. His partner, JustBatCat, pleaded guilty to the same crimes a few days before Lostutter. The irony is that the two Steubenville football players whom KnightSec sought to expose in the rape case, were tried and found guilty. One student was sentenced to one year in jail while the other received a two-year sentence. For the past few years, Lostutter has been constantly raising money to cover his legal fees.
